Power Certainty in Uncertain Weather

One thing that is certain these days is that we are increasingly encountering extreme weather in the world, also in Indonesia. In early April 2021, for example, Cyclone Seroja hit the East Nusa Tenggara area. The cyclone caused severe damage to the area due to strong winds and flooding from heavy rains and rising sea levels. As of April 10, 2021, it was recorded that this cyclone killed 176 people, damaged more than 15,500 hectares of agricultural land, severed land roads and bridges, damaged 52,375 houses, infrastructure and public facilities.

The electricity network facilities at the disaster site were severely affected. For days, the electricity connection is still not normal, so the residents affected by the disaster are forced to live without electricity. Banking facilities are also paralyzed so that residents cannot access their funds in the bank for their daily needs.

Representative Office of Inti Daya Engineering in Kupang also experienced the same thing. In the first two days of the disaster, Inti Daya personnel in Kupang were also unable to carry out their activities because they were concentrating on their families and homes. In addition, the roads are still blocked by fallen trees so they couldn’t report in for duty. After that, Inti Daya began to be able to contribute together with other residents to overcome various existing problems.

First, we provided a generator for free for a clean water pump house in the Tenau Indah Warehousing complex, to help local residents who are struggling with clean water. Furthermore, we distributed some of our generators for the restoration of public facilities, including for local banks so that they can operate to serve residents.

Under normal circumstances, we take electricity for granted. But in times of emergency due to this kind of weather uncertainty, electricity can be a scarcity that is badly needed for daily needs. Therefore, if you have a generator, always make sure your generator is ready to face this kind of crisis.

Here are some things you really need to pay attention to:
1. Make sure the generator is always ready to go.
Some of the people we met had generators for their households. But when hurricane Seroja caused a blackout, many of their generators turned out to be unable to work. Therefore, make sure you always warm up and maintain regular maintenance so that your generator is always ready for action.
2.Make sure you have enough fuel
Crisis conditions are almost always accompanied by a shortage of fuel. Therefore, make sure you always have enough fuel reserves, at least for essential life needs, for example: clean water pumps, charging cellphones, for lighting at night, or for refrigerators if needed.
3. Ensure safe use
In a crisis, it is very possible the disaster do some damage your power grid. This damage can cause the use of the generator to be a safety hazard. For example: damaged cable insulation exposes the cable to water bodies, or is easily touched by humans or pets. The use of a generator can make these cables deadly for those who are unaware of their surroundings. In addition, the buildup of CO2 from using the generator for a long time in the room can also cause death for the people in it. Therefore, before using a generator, first ensure the safety of its use for you and your family.

One thing is certain, any crisis can be overcome by mutual cooperation. Therefore, don’t forget to use our generators to contribute to the environment to accelerate mutual recovery.

These are some of the things we need to pay attention to to ensure the resilience of our electrical power in the midst of this increasingly uncertain weather. May it be useful for you!
